How It Works at Connect Sport

Mental health literacy doesn’t need to be complicated. At Connect Sport, we make it simple:

Our Courses Are Built Around 3 Core Objectives

Connect Sport Objectives

Each participant walks away with clear, confident actions they can apply in real life—on and off the field.

Identify

Bolstering knowledge about mental health will help participants learn to recognize early warning signs of mental disorders or mental health problems in youth and others.

Model

Promoting a healthy attitude towards mental health will help participants learn how to model supportive behaviours and accurate language to reduce stigma and create inclusive and supportive environments for youth.

Link

Building relationships and linking struggling youth to resources and pathways to care may encourage youth to reach out for help if they are struggling.

Together, these three objectives give coaches and parents the clarity, confidence, and language they need to create safer, more supportive environments—where every athlete feels seen, heard, and equipped to thrive.

Frequently Asked Questions

Nope. The course is designed for everyone—whether you’ve never had this conversation before or you’re just looking for better tools. It’s plain language, easy to follow, and built with busy people in mind.

Yes. We’ve compiled the essential information into a focused one-hour course. You’ll gain the core knowledge and practical actions needed to recognize, respond to, and support mental health with confidence.

Both cover the same foundational tools—but each is tailored to your role. Coaches get tips for team environments and athlete dynamics. Parents get support on communication at home and identifying concerns early.

Great question. Every course purchase funds our larger mission—like delivering free training to underserved communities, creating new tools, and driving national advocacy to normalize mental health in sport.

Absolutely. While the course is individual, we encourage you to bring the language, tools, and awareness into your team, family, and community. That’s how change spreads.

What People Think About Us

Testimonials from coaches, organizations and parents about Connect Sport and what we do.

Kent

Parent, LLoydminster
Real life feel to mental health.
This program acts as a short but important reminder of key indicators of what a mental health situation looks like. This program brought a real life feel to mental health and the stigmas around it. It made you look at the questions from another perspective. We all feel or deal with mental health in some way in our lives, and this program reminds us of our role as supporter and patient of mental health and how we can get help before it negatively affects our lives or someone else’s around us.

Connect Sport was an enlightening experience.
This platform offered valuable tools that better equipped my staff to better support the mental health challenges of our players.

Rohit Sharma

Coach
Arming our coaching staffs with better tools to support mental health literacy has been a great investment into their development to become better coaches far more valuable than any X’s and O’s training would have. We will continue to work directly with Connect Sport as more support is needed in this area in sport.

Part of a much needed shift.
Connect Sport has been a huge part of a much needed shift in the mental health support of our athletes during the 2022/23 season. We currently host 12 minor hockey programs within CNHA with 220 players and 50 coaches. Following our Connect Sport Coaches on boarding I received calls from a large number of our coaching staffs thanking us for this resource. I have also had a member for each of our staff outline at least one instance where Connect Sport training has helped with better Connect and support an athlete on their team this season.
